The instruction Dignitas personae teaches that human cloning is intrinsically unlawful, pointing out that « therapeutic cloning » is more serious from an ethical point of view than « reproductive cloning » (n. 28-30). The line of argument rests on the respect which is due to human life from conception. In this article we are discussing the position according to which the human embryo which would be created by the transfer of the nucleus for research would not be a human life but only an aggregate of cells. We show that the moral evil of « scientific cloning » originates, not only from the instrumentalisation and destruction of human embryos, but also from their asexual production. |
